John had the pleasure of hosting a Photography Masterclass at the stunning Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.
John was invited by Olympus UK to host a Wedding Photography Masterclass at the esteemed Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. To create this luxury wedding style shoot, John brought together some of the wedding industry’s top suppliers including wedding and event planner Raspberry Bespoke Events, luxury cake designer & maker The Frostery and one of London’s top florists; Rob Van Helden.
John started the day with an introductory talk about his 20 year career, including his switch to Olympus kit. The attendees were loaned cameras and lenses by the Olympus team and then headed out the shoot the first styled setup; the cake table. Featuring a stunning range of cakes supplied by the Frostery, the attendees were guided by John on the best practice to capture both wide and closeup shots of the wedding cakes and details. The table was adorned with the most beautiful floral accompaniments by Rob Van Helden and props by Wedding Day Hire, Farley Prop Hire and Over the Top Rentals.
It was then time to introduce the model for the day: Charleen Meredith. Beautifully styled in a Le Spose di Gio dress, Charlotte Mills Shoes and Botias Hair & Makeup, Charleen matched the elegance and class of the venue perfectly. John instructed Charleen to pose on the staircase, with the breathtaking chandelier as a backdrop. Each photographer had a few minutes to individually shoot the model, after camera setting and composition advice from John and the Olympus team.
After everyone had got their staircase shots it was time for a delicious lunch, prepared by the wonderful Mandarin Oriental chefs. This was also a good time to have a look at everyone’s shots from the day so far.
The afternoon session began downstairs in the lobby, which had the most perfect mirror/checkerboard floor/chaise longue combination working in it’s favour. John posed Charleen in front of the mirror to start with, in an effort to recreate one of his favourite shots from the exact same location in 2015. The photographers had plenty of inspiration to work from here, with beautiful reflections and shadows being created with every pose. Charleen then moved to the chaise longue, creating some stunning elongated shots using the silhouette of the dress.
Last but not least it was time for the group to head back upstairs to shoot a table setting, including more wonderful floral designs, as well as details by White House Crockery and Ananya Cards. John directed his lighting assistants on where to position each light and again spent time with each photographer, guiding them on technique and composition ideas for different elements on the table.
The day finished with a debrief from John and a the chance for the attendees to ask any questions they might have. The feedback from both the photographers and suppliers was very positive and a wonderful experience for all who attended.
John would like to thank the following suppliers for making the event possible:
